The Hollywood Reporter has published a great article talking about how studios are hunting for the next big property. The feature includes updates on Spider-Man 4, Wolverine, The Silver Surfer, the Superman Returns sequel and much more. Here are clips from the piece:

At some point within the next two weeks, producer Laura Ziskin and the top brass of Sony Pictures Entertainment will sit down together for the first time since "Spider-Man 3" opened May 4 to discuss the franchise's future.

It's a crucial meeting, all the more so because director Sam Raimi will be there. And Raimi, who has sent contradictory messages about his future plans, might at last indicate whether he'll helm the next installment.

"It would be great to have everybody back," Ziskin says. "But no one is going to sign on the dotted line until we have a script. These are the questions being discussed now. The one thing we have answered definitively is: There will be more 'Spider-Man' movies. We just haven't answered what shape they will come in and (Sony) hasn't given us a release date."

The upcoming meeting "will be the first step in a process," Ziskin adds. "'Spider-Man' will continue; I can't tell you every person who will be involved."

It goes without saying just how critical the "Spider-Man" franchise is to the studio's bottom line; at press time, the franchise had netted upwards of $2 billion in boxoffice receipts, not to mention home video revenue and other income from ancillary ventures. But it is hardly unique in today's Hollywood.

At Fox, 2006's "X-Men: The Last Stand" appears to have concluded the franchise -- at least in its present form. Instead, the studio is developing two possible spin-offs: "Wolverine," starring Hugh Jackman, and "Magneto," which would follow the character portrayed by Ian McKellen as a much younger man.

Also at Fox, the future of "Fantastic Four" is unclear after the second installment, "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer," dropped 66% in its second weekend, following an exceptional $58.1 million opening. Fox is developing a "Silver Surfer" follow-up and is considering another "Fantastic Four" sequel, but no script is in development, sources say. (Fox's surprise success "Live Free or Die Hard," showed the long-term value of the best franchises.)

The studio has been so eager to get "Wolverine" out next year that it has committed to go into production the instant Jackman finishes Baz Luhrmann's epic romance "Australia," which Fox is tentatively set to release next year. "The idea is, they can finish him out in September or October and put this one on the fast track so they can get it out next summer," says one source.

For the time being anyway, it seems that "Wolverine" is the best hope for continuing the "X-Men" movie franchise. "There is no script for an 'X-Men 4,' and there is none in the works," avers producer Lauren Shuler Donner.

The future of the studio's recent comic book adaptation, 2006's "Superman Returns," is somewhat more dubious. That film cost $209 million (even after various tax rebates) and marketing costs sent expenses upward of $300 million, but director Bryan Singer's Man of Steel picture made only $201 million domestically. While insiders say the movie was profitable, the studio mandated major cost cuts before proceeding with a sequel.

"If we do a sequel to 'Superman,' we want it to be less expensive," Horn acknowledges. "I have to see a screenplay before I say yes to anything. But the studio would be willing to spend as much as $175 million if the screenplay and other factors warranted it."

Still, Singer has announced that he plans to direct a second "Superman" project.

IGN has posted an article about possible ideas for the rumoured Pirates of the Caribbean 4. Check out the article >here<.

It says:

"CinemaBlend's scooper claims "the fountain of youth story [introduced at the end of Pirates 3] might not be the only story they might use the next pirate's film. The fountain story could be used in another form to introduce the story for Pirates 4."

They add that, "Some of the brainstorming going around involves some Jules Verne type of scenarios involving some pretty big flying machines, a man who wants to rule more than just the ocean, an encounter with the most famous and dangerous pirate of all, a race to get to a lost world (Hint, Hint) and Jack and his crew going to where no pirate has gone before (No, it's not space but Disney had made animated movie about this place before with Michel J Fox voicing one of the characters)."

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer opened at the number one spot taking in $57.4 million, which was a tad bit better than debut of Fantastic Four which opened at number one with $56.1 million. At number two was Ocean's Thirteen which earned $19.1 million and at number three was Knocked Up which earned $14.5 million.

Well the title is pretty self explanitory. I personally can't wait for this movie, I don't think I've ever been so excited for a movie. I heard from someone that in the comics that's what happens but I wonder if the movie will be like that. Well go out and see this movie, in an interview Jessica Alba was asked if there will be a sequel and she said if enough people see this movie, there will be a sequel. Pixar Gives Line-Up, Toy Story 3 Details

Pixar has told us what they are planning next after their newest movie Ratatouille (in theatres June 29th in the US), >click here< for details on Wall.E, Up, and most interestingly, Toy Story 3.

Here is what Pixar says about Toy Story 3:

"Originality is a Pixar hallmark. None of the company's films have been based on fairy tales or novels, and only "Toy Story" has spawned sequels. Why a third adventure for Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz (Tim Allen)? "We got an idea we thought would be really great," says Lee Unkrich, who co-directed "Toy Story 2" and "Finding Nemo" and graduates to full director status here. "We're just starting to write the story," he confides, adding, "I wake up every morning hoping for a eureka moment." He and the Brain Trust have already had one inspiration: they've asked Randy Newman to write the score. Or was that a no-brainer?"

Disney Buys Rights To All Stan Lee Material!

Wow, this really is some shock news! Walt Disney Studio has signed a multi year agreement with Stan Lee and his company, so this means Disney now has first shot at any films, tv shows, games or books based on characters by Stan Lee or his company (POW! Entertainment)!

I'm not really sure what this means, but could it possibly mean that Disney would have the power to make an X-Men 4, or even head any other Marvel movies. It says here Stan Lee is no longer associated with Marvel Entertainment Inc., so I doubt it because Marvel owns X-Men (I think)...

First of all, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer is going to be PG (in the UK at least), not PG-13 as some had thought, but the first one was PG too, so it's not really too surprising.

Callisto Joins Heroes!

Dania Ramirez, who played Callisto in X-Men: The Last Stand has been confirmed as being one of the 4-5 new characters joining Series 2 of Heroes. But her characters powers are being kept very secret. Its rumoured that Dania's character is probably going to be one of the only new regulars, with many other characters being guest stars.

Other rumoured characters include a boyfriend for Indestructable Claire, a foster mum for Micah, an Irish Mobster and a 28-year old black mother.

Heroes returns in September, for Volume Two: Generations! You can also check out the online comics!

Tim Story has confirmed that Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer is now complete! He has the following words to say to fans that are concerned about the length of the movie: "Go see it and then speak. I think it's inappropriate to judge any movie on it's running time. Does this mean every movie over 2 hrs is great? We're down to weeks guys. Relax."

The BBfc (British Board of Film Classification) have confirmed that the movie will be 91 minutes and 44 seconds long.

Tom Rothman on More X-Movies

While he does not say there definitely will be an X-Men 4, Tom Rothman from Fox has responded to many fan e-mails and questions about further X-Men movies. He says:

"The next film in the X-Men series will be "Wolverine," starring Hugh Jackman. You can expect some announcements about this movie in the very near future. And we fully intend to continue to make more "X-Men" films with both old and new muties. So fans can rest assured that they will have many opportunities in the coming years to see their favorite characters on the big screen. "

Also, Rebecaa Romijn has been asked if she has heard anything about any spin-offs or movies. She hasn't.

This is good news people, it means there will definitly be more movies, but just maybe not another X-Men movie. Anything could happen, and I'm sure they won't let such a good liscence go to waste. More as it comes on this!

Shrek The Third has wowed everyon and has made over $40 million on its opening day alone! This is setting the record for opening day of any animated film ever, and could well turn out to be a record breaking weekend, possibly beating Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Mans Chest' £135 million opening weekend. With most familiesseeing thi film in the weekend with their kids, this could be set up for the third highest gross ever, and almost definitely the highest animated film gross ever.

Also, this has added more to the downfall to Spider-Man 3, (good or bad? you decide) which has falleda total of 54%.

Xbox 360 gamers can now download a free playable demo of Disney Interactive Studios' Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. The game features events, characters and locations from the second and third movies, including everyone's favourite pirate, Captain Jack Sparrow.

The demo features the first level tutorial from the game, offering players the chance to sample the action before the game arrives in stores on May 25.

Here's the big news: The UK release of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix has been brought forward a day to June 12th! This is just in the UK, so don't everyone get too jealous =) Tell us what you think of this new development in the comments!

NBC Announce 'Inside Heroes'

NBC.com has announced a 8-part new web series based on Heroes on the making and behind the scenes of Heroes, which will begin on May 21st and go on through the long Summer wait until Seaosn Two. Also, chracter profiles will be added, telling the stories of the characters.

It has also been announced that the fantastic weekly online comics will continue during the hiatus.

George Lucas has said that he is going to two more straight-to-tv live action Star Wars movies focusing on chatacters from around the same time as the films but not including any member of the Skywalker family or story. Could we finally be seeing some of out favourite other characters, like Aayla Secura, Kit Fisto, Shaak Ti and endless other characters in their own story?

Well, I don't know how new this article is, but i found it over at msn and its very interesting, telling us littles bits of info and hints at what we are gonna find out. It tells us Elizabeth will be an integral part of the story and that the trailers is nothing compared to the movie.

One interesting bit confirms there will be an after credits clip, possibly hinting at further movies:
"We weren't privy to it, but Buckheimer says there is one additional scene at the end of the closing credits. He also said "this trilogy" is over, but perhaps the extra scene is a hint of more adventures to come. "

Release Date Change: Disney Moves Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End

At World’s End has been moved back for a Thursday night release. The film was originally scheduled to hit theaters on Friday, May 25th (on Midnight in select market theaters) but will now be released one night earlier. Screenings will begin at 8:00pm on May 24th.

The world's moviegoers were caught in the web of Columbia Pictures' Spider-Man 3 at the global box office this weekend as the film grossed $382 million worldwide, the highest opening ever in motion picture history, it was announced today by Jeff Blake, vice chairman, Sony Pictures Entertainment. Of that, $231 million was tallied from international ticket sales, with $151 million coming from the film's record-setting debut in North America. Playing in 4,252 domestic locations, the film took in an average of $35,540 per screen. The film also unspooled at more than 8,900 locations abroad.In addition to being #1 for the weekend in all 107 territories around the world in which it opened, Spider-Man 3 set a new mark for the biggest weekend of all time in 29 countries, including the United States, Canada, Japan, South Korea, China, Italy, Mexico, and Brazil. Among its many accomplishments, the film set new records for the biggest single worldwide day (Saturday, May 5 - $117,631,328), biggest international opening ($231 million), and biggest worldwide opening ($382 M).Many of the opening frame records were broken by astounding margins. In Korea, Spider-Man 3 did three times the business of the previous record holder (Korean film The Host) and bested the previous-best Hollywood film (The Matrix Reloaded) by more than four times. In Japan, Spider-Man 3 broke the old record opening weekend by 44%; in Brazil, by 48%, in Mexico by 37%; and in Italy, the film beat the previous record holder The DaVinci Code by 24%.Among the domestic records set by Spider-Man 3 are biggest opening weekend ($151,116,516), biggest single day (Friday, $59,841,919), and biggest per-theater average for a wide release ($35,540). The film also set a new record for the largest domestic gross in IMAX theaters, with $4.8 million.Commenting on the announcement, Blake said, "This weekend, more than 80% of the moviegoers around the world chose 'Spider-Man 3' and we couldn't be more overwhelmed or elated by the global reception to this movie. Spider-Man 4 Villains Revealed?

According to moviehole.net, the villains of Spider-Man 4 have been confirmed, and that they will include Carnage and The Lizard, with a rumoured appearance of the Black Cat. These villains would be awesome, as long as they don't make the same mistake as in 3 and have the plot too confusing. It says that the piece of the symbiote still with Dr Connors would turn into Carnage, and that the Doc himself would turn into the Lizard, that brings the story much closer together, as The Lizard would be responsible for Carnage.

Still no details on Raimi, Maguire and Dunst returning, but you can read the interesting news article right here! Take it all with a grain of salt, though.

Also, Sony's chief executive Michael Lynton told BBC news that the franchise would continue as long as the stories can continue to be interesting. Is Spider-Man going to become the new James Bond or Star Trek? Check it out here.

David Yates Talks Ootp and More

David Yates, who has now been confirmed to be directing Half Blood Prince, has spoken about directing the movie to the Los Angeles Times, he says:

"During one particularly emotional scene in this installment, Radcliffe recalls [Gary] Oldman [Sirius Black] saying to him: "'Dan, do you mind if I do something sort of physical with you before we start?' I was like, 'No, no,' assuming he meant giving me a hug. He came up to me and grabbed me and shook me really, really hard. As he went away, he kept eye contact. And tears started to form up. I had no idea how it happened, but it worked."

Emma Watson has also stated that he was perfect for the film, saying ""I don't know if he could have directed any of the other ones. This was his story to tell." Well, he's doing the next one too.

Lost End Date Announced!!

A few days ago, the producers of Lost, it was implied that the end date for Lost would be announced shortly, and that has just happened! The show is set to end after its 2009/2010 season, giving us three more seasons. Although these three seasons will only feature 16 episodes.

They say that, like JK Rowlings Harry Potter books, its good for the fans to know exactly when the show will end, and that answers are coming. Well, we have 48 more episodes to enjoy after this series, and it will end after Seaon 6!

Here's a new trailer for Order of the Phoenix. It aired with Spider-man 3. This is the US version, but there's another version on youtube, too. It's called the international trailer. The effects in this movie look incredible. I love the part where Harry's talking about the greatest wizards of their time and then they show clips of them. I can't wait to see this movie. I hope this worked. If it didn't maybe Richie or someone can fix it for me. I don't have much experience with blogs.

I went to see Spidey 3 last night (best of the sereis IMO) anyways before the movie started and before the trailers started they have the normal on screen advertising promoting upcoming tv shows, movies, etc...Anyways they had a new spot for FF2 that had footage from the old trailer, the tv spot, and the new trailer. It was short but sweet and showed all the characters including Doom. I didn't notice any new footage though...which is a good thing. Dont' spoil this one Fox..

The sequel hits theaters on June 15.

"Doungny," a reliable poster on the Hollywood Stock Exchange, is reporting that Spiderman 3 has added an additional $51.8 million of box office receipts for Saturday, May 5, putting it well ahead of Pirates of the Carribbean: Dead Man's Chest, which made $44 million on its first Saturday. Spider-Man 3 has grossed an estimated $110 million in two days compared to Dead Man's Chest's $100.2 million, guaranteeing that the Sony movie will set a new opening weekend record somewhere between $145 and 150 million, after setting a new opening day record, as well as new records for Friday and Saturday.

Spiderman 3 Sets New Records!

According to Box Office Mojo and other internet sources, Spiderman 3 has grossed an estimated $59 million on its opening day including a record number of sold out Thursday midnight screenings, estimated to have brought in $10 million of that amount. DeadlineHollywood reports that the third installment of Sony's blockbuster franchise grossed $104 million worldwide yesterday making May 4, 2007 the highest single day gross in box office history.

That opening gross is compared to the $40 opening day for Spiderman 2, which opened on a Wednesday in 2004, and the $43.6 million opening of the original Spider-Man, which opened on the exact same day five years ago.

If that number sticks, it will have topped the previous opening day record set last year by Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man's Chest, which opened with $55.8 million and wound up setting a new opening weekend record with $135 million, an amount that Spider-Man 3 is very likely to surpass by Sunday. Star Wars Episode III Revenge of the Sith previously held the opening day record with $50 million on Thursday, May 19, 2005.)

Some early projections for the weekend are putting Spiderman 3 in the range between $138 and $145 million for the weekend, allowing it to easily beat Dead Man's Chest's opening weekend record and to regain the record the original Spider-Man has held for four years prior.

ABC to Announce Lost End Date

Kristin Veitch at E! Online has learned that ABC is planning to announce the end date for "Lost" very soon. Veitch says that "the exact number of remaining episodes and seasons is still muddy—and might not be exactly two seasons."

She added that ABC is planning to push back the return date for the show to January of next year in order to air new episodes back-to-back, and it is also very likely that "Lost" will change time slots next season.

Veitch also says that fans can expect a "massive, mind-blowing, cast-related 'game-changer'... which is revealed in the season finale."

Johnny Depp wants to make 'Pirates of the Caribbean' films for the rest of his career.

The Hollywood actor, who plays Captain Jack Sparrow in the hit adventure series, has no intention of hanging up his pirate hat and is prepared to keep making sequels.

He told Top of the Pops magazine: "I'll never get bored of Captain Jack, he is so much fun. If they wanted to do 'Pirates 7', why not? There are new layers to Jack and situations that he can't just talk his way out of, so it would be good to keep exploring the character."

Johnny - who based the character on rolling stones guitarist Keith Richards, who has a cameo as Jack's father in the hotly anticipated third film, 'Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End' - admits there is one thing he hates about playing Jack.

David Yates confirmed to direct 'Half-Blood Prince'

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix director David Yates has confirmed that he will be directing Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

Yates told Scifi Wire:
" I am doing Half-Blood Prince, and I'm doing it because I love the world, I love the characters. I think I have more business with this world and these characters.I've made a kind of tonal shift with the fifth film, which I want to continue and develop into the sixth film. And I can see the fifth story evolving into the sixth story in a really interesting way. So I'm on a journey with this material and this world, and I'm keen to complete it."

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is in preproduction with a scheduled release date for November 21st, 2008.
